4 new riders today!

4 bikes left the IndyBikeSmiles garage today! Makes 22 this year.  3 of today's were pass-through adult-size bikes that simply needed new homes found for them.

the 4th was a bike I was holding on to, just waiting for Noah to be ready for it.  Here he is on his new bike!

3 bikes arrived at the IndyBikeSmiles garage

2 adult sized mountain bikes and one child size mountain bikes.  All are well-worn, and I need to give them a look-over and tune up.

But if you know someone who could be a rider on one of these, let me know and if they are road worthy we'll get them riding!

20" Tires, sized for a late-grade school to early middle school aged boy (or girl)

20" tires, sized for a 1st to 4th grader.

Would be a little girl's very first bike.  Solid foam tires, but I don't have training wheels for it.

16" tires on this SpiderMan bike!  Likely Pre-K thru maybe 2nd grade.

2011 Bikes 16 & 19 delivered

Two very sweet sisters are now riding 2 cute pink bikes!  Second visit by IndyBikeSmiles to their neighborhood - smiles all around!

These bring the 2011 IndyBikeSmiles total to 14 riders that may not have been doing so otherwise.  5 bikes left in the "shop". :)

2001 Bike 19 inbound, Bike 17 delivered

Busy day!  Brought two bikes in today and put another one on the road with a very happy boy riding it!

Bike 17:  delivered to a growing young boy who needed a bike to grow with him.

Bike 19:  Girls bike with 20" tires, foot and hand brake.  Will find a home this week!

2011 Bikes 16, 17, 18 (inbound)

3 more bikes.  2 of them have been in the garage a week or so, one just arrived.  2 of them moving out this week!

Girls bike with 20" tires.  Foot brake with front hand brake.  Single speed.  Headed back out this week!

Boys 15-speed with 26" tires.  Came in today and will likely go back out today :)

Spiderman Bike!  16" tires for a little guy.  This one needs a home!

2011 Bikes 9, 10 and 11: May 24. (outbound)

11 bikes given away this spring!  These 3 went out today to some VERY GOOD students who had worked really hard this year at their school!

Bikes 9, 10, and 11 - boys bikes in need of homes!

These 3 are ready to ride!  All they need is a grade-school aged boy who is ready to ride!

If you know someone who doesn't have a bike, and otherwise may not get one to ride this summer, please let me know and we can match them up!  Lets make someone's summer!

Bike 9 is a Giant brand bike. 20" tires.  Foot brake and hand brake.  I'd say 2nd-4th grade is the general range.  No reason a young lady couldn't ride this one as well!  Look at that cool fender!

Bike 10 is a Schwinn.  20" tires. Hand brake only.  is a bit bigger bike with a lot of adjust-ability for size.  Rider needs to be comfortable with no foot brake.  Likely 3rd or 4th grade and up.

Bike 11 is a Magna brand bike with 20" tires.  Hand and foot brake.  Probably 2nd-5th grade.  It looks a lot like the first bike my son had!

4 boys bikes in 2 sizes.  2 are good for an early elementary school rider, the other 2 for late elementary school early middle school.

1 girls bike - sized for the toddler looking to move directly from crawling to riding I think. 


All of them need a bit of work on my end, but not much.  So if you know of riders for these, let me know and we'll get them rolling!

3 girls bikes all looking for someone to ride them!  3 sizes here (12", 16", 20") so can cover a variety of ages.  Largest bike even has a basket!  2 smaller ones have training wheels if needed.

If you know of a little girl that needs a bike, this one is begging to be pedaled!   Silver and purple, with a basket even!

Looks like I'll have a couple more girl's bikes in the garage this weekend.

Needs full tune up, rust cleaned off, new bar tape, likely new tires & tubes.  Will make a nice ride for someone when is done!

Why "Indy Bike Smiles"

In the fall of 2009 I decided I'd start seriously biking for my health.  I was paying to go to the gym and not going because it felt like I had to.  Biking is simply fun.  I've lost weight, love riding (even in the winter) and every day can't wait for the next time I get to pedal.

At the same time, I've seen the joy on children's faces when they are riding.  Is the same joy I'm experiencing, but without the baggage we all have as adults.

So in late 2010 I decided I'd find 3 or 4 children in my circle of acquaintances and provide them with bikes.  Simple bikes that I've refurbished.  I was able to put 4 kids on bikes in the fall, and the smiles warmed my heart.

If you have a bike you'd like to donate to this cause, or know a child that could use a bike but won't otherwise get to ride one, please let me know.

My goal in 2011 is to do the same for 10-12 kids. Maybe more. This is the start of that journey...
